December Letter January Letter Gilkes Meeting Founders Day Invite

Dec. 26, 2006

To: Alumni, Phi Kappa Psi, PA Alpha

Re: Future of PA Alpha Chapter at W&J

Brothers,

As the end of 2006 draws near, I hope that this year has been kind to you and that you are enjoying the holiday season.

As you are aware, 2006 marks the 154th year of the founding of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. As pledges we discovered the honor of being the founding chapter of our fraternity and as brothers we came to understand the responsibilities that go with maintaining and growing our chapter.

In November of this year, rumors began to circulate about the possibility of Phi Kappa Psi no longer existing as an active chapter at W&J. Several local alumni expressed great concern with these rumors and banded together to discover the present status of PA Alpha. Their findings reveal a scenario,  that if not changed, will quickly lead to an undesirable conclusion.

Discussions were held separately with the College, our National Offices and the Alumni Adviser of the chapter. It was apparent that each of these parties had a different understanding of the situation and the potential results. After sifting through all the conversations, the following items are of immediate concern:

  1. If the local chapter does not successfully complete an application for new college owned fraternity housing by February 28, 2007, they will lose the present house and be dispersed among the general college housing.
  2. The chapter is not accredited with our National Organization.
  3. The chapter has the lowest college rating of any Greek organization at W&J.

A meeting has been scheduled for January 17, 2007 with all of the above parties and the concerned alumni group. This will be the first time everyone is at the same table at the same time. The expected outcome is to solve the first and most immediate problem. The others will require more time to fix.

So that you can be aware of the ongoing situation, a website is being established, phikappapsialpha.com. You can get the latest information as it becomes available. An email group has been established to provide updates.

I, like many of you, did not participate in alumni fraternity matters following graduation. After over 30 years of inactivity, I was asked to get re-involved in Phi Kappa Psi. I felt that the ideals and the personal development associated with The House were worth preserving for future generations.

This is not an appeal for money. We simply ask that you let us know of your support of our efforts through a reply to this email. We will take copies of those emails to the joint meeting. We also ask that you let other brothers know of this situation and ask them to do the same thing. Watch for updates!

Hi, Hi, Hi
