Bill Ahrbeck

Photography training, Ft. Monmouth , NJ. MOS 84 B –still photo . First Cav PIO June 69 to June 70.

Assigned Quan Loi . I looked forward to coming down for our monthly payday party and I remember one time trying to get JD to say a drawing of a wall outlet "looked like a, socket to me".Rowen and Martin's Laugh in was a big show then, I think I even had a cup of confetti but ol' JD wouldn't bite .

Another fond memory was having Capt. Ryan teach me "High flyin’ bird " and “Classical Gas" on the guitar. I learned a little about death and fear that year and a couple new songs on the guitar. Not a bad trade off. Some guys in the field never learned to play the guitar.

I still had time on my enlistment after Nam and ended up at Ft. Hood, TX doing grip and grins and documentary shots for Project Masters. I went back to SIU-Carbondale. Got Married, Got my degree in Art and Photography, and moved east. I Had my own photo business for a time. Worked in Cable TV with Group W, then Cablevision of CT, and NYC . Moved back to Illinois and now do sales for a Med-gas Co. I still shoot 35 mm and have had several shows of my work.
