I served with the 1st Air Cav as an Infantry Rifle Platoon leader from May of 1969 to Oct. of 1969 with C Company 2nd Battalion 12th Cav. I was transferred via helicopter out of the field to the PIO office in early Oct 1969 in Phuoc Vinh. I worked with J.D. as an escort officer for briefings from the General & Colonels at G-2. Lt. Mack Allison was the person that I replaced. Ironically he had also taken his OCS at Ft. Benning where we were both in the 63rd OC training company, I was one cycle behind him, being commissioned in Sept. of 1968. I did my first tour after OCS as a basic training officer at Fort Ord Calif. from Sept. of 68 to April of 1969 when I was sent to Panama for Jungle School after which I was shipped to Vietnam the 1st of May 1969.

My first impression of J.D. was that I was looking at my hero John Wayne...he reminded me so much of him that it was uncanny. He was inspiring in his command presence and the way he made people want to work for him. I loved working for J.D. he was and still is a great man. Thanks J.D.

After leaving the military, I worked in many fields, first as a farmer (I grew up on a ranch in northern California), then I took a 4 month trip to Europe and that's how I caught the travel bug...next I worked as a title insurance searcher, then I worked 6 years at LAX in sales for Continental Airlines. After they declared bankruptcy I worked for a new start up company called Century 21 in Real Estate sales, then I sold business franchises and then travel franchises and eventually I got into main frame computer sales.

After that and living in southern California, I decided to move back to northern California. I enlisted in the California National Guard, went to Korea and then came back and at age 44 I was activated to go to the Persian Gulf in Aug. of 1989. I was injured in Iraq in Jan. of 1990 with my second broken back (only considered an injury not combat related) in a trucking accident. It took me three weeks to get out of country under SCUD fire.

After finally making it back to the states I was discharged and went back to work in seminar sales in real estate until that company went broke. I then taught telecommunications and since 1995 I have taught law in Sacramento Calif. I'm a paralegal and a Notary Public. I have never married and have no children.
